Businessman using smart phone

Medical Director of Sunyani Regional Hospital (SHR), Dr. Emmanuel Kofi Amponsah has cautioned workers against the use of mobile phones during working hours.

The act he said, breaches the code of conduct of the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

“As a health worker, your job is to save life,” he said.

He gave this caution during an interview with the Ghana News Agency, after a durbar for retirees at Sunyani.

He mentioned that, management of the hospital had seized several mobile phones from workers.

According to him, most of these workers are either found on Facebook or Whatsapp whilst on duty.

This he said, distracts them from doing what they have been assigned to do at the office.

According to him, GHS wouldn’t compromise anything that will endanger the lives of patients.

Consequently, penalties such suspension, half-salary and in major cases dismissal, have been laid down for individuals who turn out guilty.

He therefore urged health workers to be very careful in order not to turn out culprits as they would have to bear the repercussions.

Finally, Dr Amposah entreated health workers in the country to work diligently and follow the rules laid down.

This according to him will help them achieve their goal as an organization.
