A Global Epidemic Prevention mobile app has been launched in Ghana by the Ghana Health Service in partnership with an ICT Technology company, Korea Telecom.

The app which will help strengthen government’s disease surveillance capacity has also been designed to enable the early detection of infectious diseases within the country.

The app will give the Ghana Health Service information on users who travel to epidemic-prone countries.

It will also give app users notifications on potential infection to keep them informed and alert while it provides information on the nearest hospital to enable them report their symptoms to the health authority.

Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Anthony Nsiah-Asare mentioned at the launch that, the App will not only give alerts of threats but will also provide information on the nearest health centre.

According to him, information collected will be used to build a strong national public health system that is able to maintain active surveillance of disease and public health events, to enable rapid investigation.
