Leading ICT Company, Huawei Technologies has paid a courtesy call on the President of Ghana, H.E, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to reaffirm its commitment to enhance the digital skills capacity of the Ghanaian youth from innovation capacity building to job creation to boost the country’s economic growth. 

Speaking to the delegation from Huawei led by Mr. Chen Lei, President of Huawei Southern Africa Region, the President commended Huawei for its enormous contribution and commitment towards the development of Ghana’s ICT infrastructure.

The delegation from Huawei ceased the opportunity to brief the President on the company’s initiatives and performance over the past years from the training of young girls and women in latestICT technologies to the training of government officials to the launch of Huawei’s maiden ICT Job fair in Ghana, among others.

Mr. Chen Lei mentioned that in support of the Government’ s Youth Employment program, Huawei through its ICT capacity building programme will offer digital skills development training to 50,000 young Ghanaians and connect them to 500+ industry ready jobs by 2024.

According to him, Huawei will also provide entrepreneurshiptraining and support for 1,000 (One Thousand) Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) with stronger innovative capabilitiesthrough open collaboration with relevant government and industry partners.

H.E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo lauded the telecom giant’s ICT plans and directed the company to work collaboratively with relevant government ministries and agencies for the effective delivery of its initiative aimed at supporting talent cultivation, youth employment, entrepreneurship and the digitalization of Ghana’s economy.

Mr. Chen Lei, reiterating the company’s unwavering commitment towards the development of Ghana’s ICT infrastructure indicated that Huawei will leverage on its global expertise, innovations and ICT solutions to support the country’s digital transformation agenda.

Over the past 20 years, Huawei has advanced the ICT skills of more than 80 000 people across the Sub- Saharan region and this has helped increase youth employability and bridge the gender gap in the ICT industry.

Under its LEAP (Leadership Entrepreneurship Advancement Possibility) program, the company organized its maiden ICT Job Fair in collaboration with key ministries of government and offered employment opportunities to 200+ tertiary studentsacross the various technical universities in Ghana.
