Leading global ICT company, Huawei, has rewarded 12 students and 3 instructors at the Huawei National ICT Training Awards, held in Accra..

With the aim of offering opportunities for university students in ICT, the company has been committed to continuously carrying out the ICT Talents Development program to groom more ICT talents in Ghana.

The Chief Executive Officer of Huawei Ghana explained that: “In 2018, Huawei introduced two flagship ICT oriented initiatives to harness and develop Ghana’s ICT talents.

“These major programs were the Huawei ICT Competition and the Huawei National ICT Training Program. The Huawei ICT Competition is a global competition for universities and colleges students with ICT background.

“The Competition is carried out at the National, Regional and Global levels and aims at driving the development of high-quality ICT talents for industries and continues providing future driving forces and active participants for digital transformation.

“It also aims at promoting efficient mapping of talents supply and demand for a sustainable talent ecosystem.”

Last year, 3 students from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology emerged as top best three students from Africa in the global Huawei ICT Competition, therefore, more slots and priority was given Ghana this year.

More than 500 ICT and Engineering students from top universities in Ghana competed in the global ICT talent competition this year and 12 students from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, KNUST and the Accra Technical University excelled.

The students who came out successful after the competition, were rewarded at the Huawei National ICT Awards.

Prizes for the Awards included latest Huawei smartphones and other devices including the Matebook, internship opportunities, training trip to China and other capacity-development rewards.

The awards gala also saw the unveiling of the Team that will represent Ghana at the Regional Competition in South Africa and hopefully go on to represent Ghana at the global stage.

The team was unveiled as:
1. Joshua Ofori Boateng, Level 400 Telecom Engineering Student, KNUST
2. Gerald Philip Bassah, Level 400 Computer Engineering Student, KNUST
3. Seffah-Duodo Timothy, Level 400 Computer Engineering Student, KNUST
4. Dr. Kwasi Opare Snr. Lecturer College of Engineering, KNUST (Instructor).

The 2019-2020 edition of the Huawei ICT Competition would be opened for registration in May, 2019.
