On Wednesday, we got to see Apple release its brand new devices and it was a rather interesting event.

The company unveiled three new iPhones and a newer version of the Apple Watch; Apple Watch 4.

Despite it being the 20th anniversary of the company’s groundbreaking desktop computer; the iMac, there was no mention or release of a brand new iMac.

Similarly, the iPad was also a no show despite many rumors about a possible upgrade of the said device possessing Face ID similar to its little brother the iPhones.

Naturally there were no MacBook releases since Apple had already released newer versions some months back.

But what really happened at the event and what was the scope of the releases? Well they are as follows;

THE APPLE WATCH 4

Apple launched its Apple Watch 4 touting it as the number one watch in the world. (bestselling).

The new watch comes with a larger curved display despite the same size and form factor.

Battery life remains the same despite the many upgrades in WatchOS thus showcasing some of Apples software hardware optimization techniques. The Apple Watch 4 features the following new capabilities;

  • Improved sound clarity- By changing the location of the speaker and boosting its capability, the Apple Watch 4 boast clearer and better sound quality.
  • Background heart rhythm detection- This is constantly ongoing and the watch will send you a notification if it detects an irregularity.
  • Electrocardiogram – Thanks to the presence of electrodes in the back sapphire crystals and the digital crown of this device, users can actively perform an electrocardiogram on themselves to detect their heart beat patterns (any irregularities will be made known to the user.

This new device starts at $399 for the GPS version and $499 for the cellular version.

Orders begin this Friday September 14th and device availability will be in a week, 21st September.

THE IPHONES
True to speculations and rumors, Apple released three new devices to its line up (while interestingly end production for quite a number of its previous models).

The devices are the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and the iPhone XR (yeah we still don’t know what the R stands for).

What are the upgrades to these devices, well let us see;
Yes the iPhone XSs do come in gold, as well as silver and space grey.

The XR on the other hand comes with a few more colors, bright colors to be exact. They are white, black, blue, coral, yellow and red.

The XS has a 5.8” super retina OLED display while the XS Max has a 6.5” display of the same quality.

The iPhone XR on the other hand sports what Apple now calls a 6.1” edge to edge Liquid Retina display which is LCD.

The XSs come with a dual camera system that works in tandem with Apple’s Machine Learning Kit (ML Kit) to improve photography.

This combo goes as far as allowing a user to change the depth of field (aperture) of a shot that has been taken, not during but after. The XR has only one 12mp wide angle camera.

The iPhone XS Max has the largest battery Apple has ever put in a device they said.

The exact mAh was not given but the battery was said to give an extra hour and a half of power as compared to the iPhone X.

The XR also comes with battery improvements; an hour and half extra power than the iPhone 8 Plus.

True to all rumors, the iPhone XS and XS Max will be dual sim.

All the iPhones released have Face ID so yes goodbye Touch ID.

The three new iPhones come in different sizes. The XS and XS Max come in 64GB, 256GB and 512GB while the XR comes in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB.

You are definitely wondering about the prices. Well here they are.

The iPhone XR starts at $749 with pre-orders beginning on October 19th. The XS starts at $999 and the XS Max starts at $1099.

In conclusion, Apple says this is their best iPhone yet. With the specs revealed so far, what do you think?
