Two more radio stations in Sunyani have been shut down by the National Communications Authority (NCA).

The closure of Space FM and Ark FM comes on the heels of the NCA’s crackdown on radio stations.

The General Managers of Ark FM and Space FM confirmed the stations’ shutdown.

Five other radio stations have been shut down by the NCA as well.

After the Radio XYZ and Radio Gold were shut down, the following stations were also closed by the NCA.

  • Nananom FM, owned by Collins Dauda, the Asutifi South Member of Parliament and located in Goaso.
  • Genesis FM, owned by Nana Adjei Ampofo, a resolute member of the NDC and a former member of the Council of State and located in Goaso as well.
  • Sekpele FM, located in Likpe.

All these stations were shut down on Friday for breach of the license regulations.

The NCA has been accused of acting with malicious purposes even though it has announced that the shutdown activities conducted throughout the country would be performed without constraint to guarantee that all the radio stations in the country meet the laid down licensing rules.

The NCA drew fire after shutting down pro-NDC stations Radio XYZ and Radio Gold over issues concerning their licenses last week.

Both stations claimed that the NCA failed to attend to them when they had been making efforts to get their licenses renewed.
